The copper, zinc, iron and tin sulphide is a rare mineral but specimens of this size and quality are exceptionally unusual.
The
Stannite
occurs as clusters of large lustrous black crystals along with sizable crystals of
Arsenopyrite
. The sulphide minerals are attached to a large and complex cluster of
Quartz
crystals with largely intact terminations.
The quartz contains metallic inclusions which are probably arsenopyrite, along with very small bright
yellow inclusions
reminiscent of a lava lamp.
This is a highly displayable specimen of a hard to get mineral.
The specimen is from the Yaogangxian Mine, Chengzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.
