This specimen features twinned octahedrons of gemmy
red Spinel
in a porphyritic granitoid.
The spinel crystals are lustrous with fresh faces and edges.
The granitoid matrix is sprinkled with numerous smaller spinel crystals.
The contrasting red of the spinel against the generally white matrix makes a fine display.
The specimen is from Kolone, Ratnapura, Sri Lanka.
