An unusual example of
Agate
from Minas Gerais, Brazil with silica replacing calcite resulting in a highly angular form instead of the usual sub-spherical we usually expect.
The main body of the agate is translucent white with a very dark grey center and amber colored chalcedony forming the rind of the central vug.
These
polyhedral quartz pseudomorphs after calcite
mined during the 1970’s since then they have become increasingly uncommon on the market with most examples appearing as thin slabs. This specimen has been cut in half and polished to retain the bulk of the item to display the origin of the item.
